第9回国際炎症学会 (The 9th World Congress on Inflammation) が第30回日本炎症・再生医学会 （東京大学 山本一彦会長）との合同学会として7月6日（月）～7月10日（金）（5日間）京王プラザ ホテルにて開催されました．「炎症・修復・再生医学研究の新機軸， Innovative Research of Inf lammation, Repair and Regenerative Medicine」をメインテーマに，炎症基礎研究の到達点（限界 と最近のブレークスルー），炎症臓器修復・線維化機序への新視点，炎症臓器の再生医学・医療， 新規炎症疾患治療標的と創薬・ドラッグデザイン等を主要題目として内外の研究者による発表，討議 が活発になされました．御陰さまで，当初予定の800人（うち3割が外国人，JSIR会員参加は200名）の 参加のもと盛大な会を開催できましたことに心から御礼を申し上げます．

| 第1日目： |
厳かな開会式に引き続き，私の会長講演Chemokines: From Discovery to Clinical Development，そしてKeynote Lectureとして大阪大学 岸本忠三先生にFrom IL-6 to Th17と いう題目でanti-IL 6 R抗体の関節リウマチへの臨床応用とその基盤研究，京都大学 山中伸也 先生にはiPS発見に至る研究と迫力ある講演をいただきました．その後のOpening Receptionに は450名の参加をいただき会場がいっぱいで最初から大きな盛り上がりを示しました．外国の 参加者には鏡開き，津軽三味線，飴細工などを楽しんでいただきました． |

東京大学の谷口維紹先生のLife WorkであるNucleic Acids-Sensing, IRF転写因子と炎症，免疫に関するKeynote Lectureをいただき，Morning Symposium 1: Innate Immunity/Inflammationの基本的機序，午後にはDr. David Hafler (Harvard Medical School) のHuman TregとTh17の特別講演，Industry-/Society -Sponsored Symposiumが行われ，その後Workshop, Poster Sessionが夜9時まで開催されました． |

Dr. Abul K. Abbas (UCSD) によるInitiation and Control of T Cell-Mediated InflammationというタイトルでのマウスTregに関するKeynote Lectureの後，Morning Symposium 2: Inflammation-Associated Tissue Injury and Repair，午後には水島 昇先生（東京医科歯科大学） によるAutophagyの特別講演が行われました．その後，前日同様Industry-/Society-Sponsored Symposi um，Workshop, Poster Sessionが夜9時まで開催されました．第2，3日目の夕刻に開催されたWorkshopは 350にのぼる一般演題から選ばれた口頭発表でこれらの中から6人のBest Poster Award受賞者が選ばれました． |

Dr. Thomas J. Schall (ChemoCentryx, Inc.) はなぜ，この間のケモカイン受容体拮抗剤の 臨床治験の多くが挫折したのかについて薬理動態の上から論評するとともに, 現在Phase II進行中の Chemokine拮抗剤CCR9 antagonistについて紹介するKeynote Lectureを行いました．Morning Symposium 3-1: New Strategy for The Discovery of Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Morning Symposium 3-2: Regenerative Medicine, 午後にはYoung Investigator Award（Van Arman Award，Dr. Richard Carlsonによる賞の謂れの紹介の後）7人の候補者によるコンテスト，Women in Inflammation Science Award Lecture（Dr. Maria G. Belvisi, Imperial College of Londonによるプロスタノイドの気道収縮作用 に関する研究），Inflammation Lifetime Achievement Award Lecture（成宮周先生，京都大学によるPG受容 体欠損マウス作成によるPGsの新しい生理機能，免疫制御作用に関する研究）などの受賞講演がありました． 夕刻7時から10時まで学会バンケットが300人の着席で盛大に催されました．バンケットではIan Ahnfelt-Ronne IAIS会長の挨拶等の後，各Awardの授賞式とともに，次回第10回国際炎症学会開催会長Dr. Michael Chignardへ の私からのバトン渡しを行いました．NHK交響楽団団友の方々の演奏とオペラ歌手による歌，そして素晴らしい ワインは参加者に大好評でした．今回Poster Session with Wine & Cheeseならびにバンケットでお出ししたWine は全てシュヴァリエ 太田悦信さん（東京都港区三田）にお選びいただきました． |

Morning Symposium 4-1: Novel Therapeutic Approachesと4-2: Regenerative Medicineが 行われ学会最期まで多くの参加者のもと閉会を迎えました． |

今回のシンポジウムでは招待講演として審良静男，長田重一，清水孝雄， 岡野栄之先生らにも講演をいただき, 日本の炎症・再生医学研究の底力を示す ことができたと思います．また，本学会の創薬，臨床医学への発展という意味 で欠かせないDrug Discovery/Novel Therapeuticsに関しても午前中のシンポジ ウムのみならず, 午後からのIndustry-Sponsored Symposiumで様々なAnti-TNFa lpha抗体，Anti-CD20抗体をはじめとした生物製剤，抗炎症剤の現在と未来につ いて討論されました．なお，詳細な学会報告はThomson Reutersの学会速報の記 録を御参照いただければ幸いです．最終日午後には，宮坂信之理事長と大阪大学 村上伸也先生による骨の炎症・再生：歯周病とは，関節リウマチとは？という 市民講座も開催し，３００人の一般の方々が熱心に聴衆されました．今回のメイ ンテーマ「炎症・修復・再生医学研究の新機軸，Innovative Research of Inflammation, Repair and Regenerative Medicine」に基づく学会を盛会に持てた とことを大変喜んでおります．会員皆様に重ねて御礼を申し上げます．
終わりにあたり，本学会開催にあたり一貫して御支援をいただきました 日本炎症研究振興会の皆様に厚く御礼を申し上げます．本学会には日本 学術会議の共催を，また日本製薬団体連合会，上原生命記念科学財団， 三共生命科学研究振興財団をはじめ, 多くの企業から多大な御支援をい ただきました．心から御礼を申し上げます．

Thank you very much for your tremendous help to have made The 9th World
Congress very successful and fruitful. It was my really heavy burden,
but now has changed into my pleasure. I myself satisfied with very strong
scientific program with good speakers. In addition, I appreciate that the
speakers cooperated very much to fit to the main theme of each symposium.
Therefore, the entire scientific program became well orchestrated.
Social events, including Opening Reception, Wine and Cheese Poster Session,
and Banquet with good wine and entertainment were unforgettable. It was my
really pleasure to have seen enjoyable faces of attendants.
May I wish The 10th World Congress on Inflammation in Paris successful.

own experience the huge efforts and risks involved in organising a meeting
of this size, and what a triumphant feeling it is when everything finally
turns out the way you dreamt about. This was the case both with regard to
the superb scientific programme, the seamless organisation of all technicalities
under the leadership ofIzumi Fukaya, and the fantastic and unforgettable social
programme in the vibrant city of Tokyo. You have certainly deserved this feeling
of triumph, and all the credit in the world for your world congress; on behalf of

Congratulations again for this wonderful Congress. It is always a great
pleasure for me to visit Tokyo, but this time it was better than usual.
Indeed, we had a very good science and also a super social program.
Please convey my congratulations to all your colleagues involved in
the organization.
The task for us in Paris is now enormous as it will be obviously impossible
to do better than you did. Of course, we will do nonetheless our best, and
I warmly thank you for your kind wishes. |
