Instructions for Authors

Scope of the Inflammation and Regeneration

The Inflammation and Regeneration is the official international journal of the Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration (JSIR) in conjunction with Asian-Pacific Federation of Inflammation and Regeneration (APFIR).

The editor of Inflammation and Regeneration welcomes original and innovative submission in English in the field of inflammation and regeneration from both members and non-members of the Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration, and the Asian -Pacific Federation of Inflammation and Regeneration.

The Inflammation and Regeneration publishes five issues per year as the online journal.


Prerequisites for publication

1.Originality
Authors should certify that no part of the work described has been published before (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, review, or thesis) and that the work is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. If the inclusion of direct quotations, tables, or illustrations that have appeared in copyrighted material is absolutely necessary, they must be accompanied by written permission in English for their use from the authors and copyright holder.

2.Copyright transfer
Authors should also certify that if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatic transfer of the copyright to the Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration, and that the manuscript, or its parts, will not be published elsewhere subsequently in any language without the consent of the copyright holder.

3.Observance of ethical issues
Investigations in humans must be in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee (institutional or regional) on human experimentation or with the Helsinki Declaration of 1964 and all subsequent revisions. Informed consent must be obtained from all patients. Patient anonymity should be preserved.

The treatment of experimental animals must be in accordance with the guidelines of the authors’ institution or the National Research Council’s criteria (NIH publication No. 86-23).

4.Sources of Funding
The Sources of Funding section should include all sources of research support, including public and private entities, commercial or institutional support, and any substantial contributions by individuals.

5.Disclosure of conflict of interests
Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that may pose conflict of interests. In the acknowledgment, before the reference list, all such relationships should be declared in a manuscript.


Types of manuscript

The Journal publishes Editorials, Full Papers, Notes, Rapid Communications, Case Reports, Clinical Drug Evaluations, Reviews and Mini-Reviews. The submitted manuscript will be reviewed by two or more referees with the exception for the limited invited articles.

1) Full Papers:
New, significant, innovative and original findings are suitable as Full papers.

2) Notes:
Papers containing new reproducible facts and important data obtained from partial studies are suitable for Notes. The papers should not exceed 4 printed pages.

3) Rapid Communications:
Papers containing new and important findings that are adequate for urgent publication in the Journal will be reviewed by the Editor. An explanatory statement for urgent publication is necessary from the corresponding author. The papers should not exceed 2 printed pages.

4) Case Reports and 5) Clinical Drug Evaluation:
Case reports and Clinical Drug Evaluations such as clinical trials which may be of wide interest to the readers will also be accepted.

6) Reviews and Mini-Reviews:
The editor will invite authors to write Reviews or Mini-Reviews. These Reviews and Mini-Reviews: The editor will invite authors to write Reviews or Mini-Reviews. These Reviews encompass recent important scientific discoveries and theories.
 


Submission of manuscript

Authors should submit their manuscripts online.

Author accounts
Authors entering the journal’s Editorial Manager site can either create a new account or use an existing one. When you have an existing account, use it for all your submissions; you can track their status on the same page. If you have forgotten your username and password, please click the link “Send Username/ Password” and enter your e-mail address.
You will then receive an automatic e-mail with your username and password.

Getting started
Once you have logged into your account, Editorial Manager will lead you through the submission process in an orderly, step-by-step process. If you cannot ?nish your submission in one visit, you can save a draft and re-enter the process later at the same point for that manuscript. While submitting your electronic manuscript, you will be required to enter data about your manuscript in the system. These include full title, author names and af?liations, and so forth. Support for special characters is available.

Keeping track
After submission, you may return and monitor the progress of your submission through the review process.

Manuscript fee
20,000 yen(JPN YEN)will be charged as on-line publication fee when the manuscript is accepted except for the invited articles.

Manuscript preparation for Full Papers, Notes and Rapid Communications

1. Length of manuscripts
Full Papers have no limitation of length.

Notes and Rapid Communications should not exceed 16 and 8 manuscript pages, respectively, including abstract, references, tables and figures. A table or figure should be counted as one manuscript page.


2. Manuscript form
All manuscripts should be typewritten in English with double spacing on A4-size paper 3 cm margin on each side.The main documents should be formatted in rich text (.rtf) or as Microsoft Word document (.doc) or Adobe PDF file.

Title page:
The title page (page 1) should start from the field (chose either Inflammation or Regeneration), the type of the article (e.g., Full Paper, Review, Mini-Review, Note, etc.), the title, name(s) of the author(s) and affiliation, mailing address, and the short running title. The title should contain no more than 150 characters and should not consist of a sentence (statement or conclusion) or be interrogative.

The short running title should contain no more than 50 characters. An asterisk (*) should be added to the right of the corresponding author's name. At the bottom left, the address, telephone and fax numbers and E-mail address should be given below one short horizontal line.

Abstract page:
Abstract page (page 2) should contain an abstract of less than 250 words for Full Papers, and 100 words for Notes and Rapid communications. It should be self-explanatory and intelligible without reference to the body of the paper. Five keywords should also appear in the bottom of this page.

Main text:
Introduction (page 3), Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References, and Footnote if any, should be presented in this order for Full Papers. In case of Notes and Rapid Communications, results and discussion should be combined to Results and Discussion. Table(s), Figure legend(s), and Figure(s) should be collected at the end, each on separate sheet. All pages should be numbered consecutively on the top center of each sheet.

Acknowledgments:
Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that may pose conflicts of interest. All such relationships should be declared in the acknowledgments. If no conflict of interest is declared, then “None” should be inserted in this section.
 

3. Figures
Submitted Figure(s) will directly be used in the printed version of the Journal. Letters, numbers and symbols should be clear when reduced to the size for this Journal. Figure legend(s) should be typed on separate sheet and be included in the main text. Each Figure should be printed on each separate sheet. Figure(s) should be numbered in the order in which they are cited in the text, and figure number(s) should be printed on the top right corner. Common graphic files such asPower Point, PDF, JPEG, GIF, and TIFF should be used. EPS should not be used. Please make figures that are satisfactory for the review process and for printing.

4. Tables
Table(s) should be prepared so that they are self-explanatory. No vertical lines should be used to set columns apart. Table legend(s) should be typed under the body in the same sheet. Table(s) should be numbered in the order in which they are cited in the text. Each Table should be written on each separate sheet and be included in the main text.

5. Abbreviations
Abbreviations must be spelled out in full at their initial appearance, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. Thereafter, the abbreviation may be employed. Some commonly used abbreviations such as “ATP, DNA, RNA, cAMP, IC50, LD50, ml, μg, mol, h, min, s, mM, mg/dl, kDa, Bq, cpm, %, S.E., S.D., p, etc.”may be used.

6. References
References in the text should be numbered in the order of appearance. Each number is to be positioned after the last relevant word with a right-half parenthesis mark, All references should be collected be together, and listed in the References section of the paper. Journal titles should be abbreviated according to Index Medicus.

Manuscript preparation for Case Reports, Reviews and Mini-Reviews
Review articles have no limitation of length. Mini-Reviews and Case Reports should not exceed 16 manuscript pages (4 printed pages), including abstract, references, tables and figures.

Construction of the Main text in Case Reports, Reviews and Mini-Reviews is not necessarily to follow the form of Full paper (e.g., Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, etc), but Title page, Abstract page, Acknowledgments, References, Figures and Tables should be same as Full papers.
 
Copyright
Authors must send Declaration Form together with manuscript. After acceptance of the manuscript for publication in the Inflammation and Regeneration, and the Asian -Pacific Federation of Inflammation and Regeneration, the Journal will grant authors to use portions of their manuscript, without charge, in books or articles of which they are authors or editors under the condition to cite author(s)' name(s), volume, page and year of the Inflammation and Regeneration.
